Mariko van Veen, who graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2023, has always been drawn to the creative and innovative. From an early age, her passion for the arts led her to work with her hands, creating pieces from organic materials like wood and ceramics. She thrives in social settings, drawing inspiration from the exchange of ideas and knowledge with others. Mariko’s design style is simple, versatile, yet focused on the user, aiming to enhance functionality with unique designs. She enjoys designing furniture and products that interact with the body, space, and context.

Having worked both independently and as part of teams, Mariko has participated in numerous artistic design projects. Her commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in her work, especially in projects involving recycled materials. Noteworthy projects include designing a collection of vazes that got nominated for the design contst Cor Unum, ‘Keep playing 2023’ and collaborating with MADE.com to modernize a popular furniture item.

During her studies, Mariko completed an internship in Zurich, Switzerland, at a renowned Design Studio. There, she learned the art of crafting design sculptures from sand, covering the entire process from concept to completion. (https://www.hotwireextensions.com)

Beyond her design work, Mariko has been active in various capacities, such as showcasing her graduation project ’Lay me Down’ at the Graduation show during the Dutch Design Week 2023, where she received considerable praise for her ceramics work.
