How can you craft a dinner that not only impresses but also deeply moves someone you admire? What elements will leave them spellbound and create an unforgettable experience? In this creative endeavor, Mariko sets out to prepare an extraordinary meal for an individual she holds in high regard. Drawing inspiration from 'Memoirs of a Geisha,' she chose to dedicate this meal to the Geisha depicted in the novel, a character whose strength and influence left a profound impact on her. It was Mariko's honor to design a dinner that pays homage to such a powerful presence.
But how do you create a special dinner for someone who enjoys amazing Japanese meals daily? Mariko aimed higher and more extravagant! She crafted 101 bowls, each a piece of an extraordinary dinner experience she hopes her Geisha will always remember. You might ask, why 101? It's inspired by the symbolic number 1001, important in various cultures. However, 1001 bowls would mean too many dishes and wouldn't fit on a table. So, Mariko chose to make 101 unique dinnerware items instead.
